Lieutenant Colonel Paul Muggleton

Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Bachelor of Laws ( Australian National University), Doctor of Juridical Science ( Melbourne University)

Graduated from the Royal Military College in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts (first class honours) and allocated to the Royal Australian Armoured Corps. Served as an officer in the Australian Regular Army until February 1995. Highlights during this career were service for one year with the MFO (Multinational Force and Observers) in the Sinai and Israel and after allocation to the Australian Army Legal Corps in 1989, appointment as the Chief Legal Officer for the Western Division.

In February 1995, after leaving the Australian Regular Army, appointed as a Delegate to the Armed and Security Forces for the International Committee of the Red Cross and allocated to the Central and South-East Europe region. Between 1995 and 1998 conducted international humanitarian law activities in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Albania and Romania.

For the period 1999-2004 was appointed a Consultant for the Australian Defence Force's Military Law Centre. Was Acting Director of the Military Law Centre during the periods July 2001 to February 2002 and May 2003 to November 2003. In 2002 was also appointed an Associate Director of the Asia Pacific Centre for Military Law. In the period November 2003 to February 2004 served as an ADF legal officer in the Office of General Counsel within the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq. Currently remains appointed as an Associate Director of the Asia Pacific Centre for Military Law.
