Peacekeeping Seminar Jakarta 14-15 Feb 07

APCML Associate Director LTCOL Paul Muggleton represented the APCML at a peacekeeping seminar in Jakarta in the period 14-15 Feb 07. The seminar was preceded by meetings with Indonesian interlocutors on 13 Feb 07. The Indonesian participants at the seminar included representatives of DEPHAN (Ministry of Defence), POLRI (Indonesian National Police), TNI (Indonesian armed forces) and DEPLU (Indonesian Department of Foreign Affairs). Australian participants included representatives of the ADF Warfare Centre, the ADF Peacekeeping Centre, the APCML, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. The seminar was immediately followed by discussions between Australian and Indonesian authorities on practical activities that could be conducted in the future.

The objective of the seminar was to conduct a peacekeeping seminar focused on practical cooperation and information exchange. The program included the following: the Indonesian Peacekeeping Centre; the ADF Peacekeeping Centre; legal aspects of peacekeeping; the APCML; UN Standard Training Modules; Indonesian peacekeeping experiences; global developments in international peacekeeping (Global Peace Operations Initiative - GPOI, the Challenges Project); support to peacekeeping deployments, including logistics; and the ADF approach to Civil-Military Cooperation.

The seminar was very well organised and provided an excellent opportunity for participants to discuss a wide range of peacekeeping topics including how best to engage on such topics in the future.
